Facilities
IHR in Nottingham boasts a wide range of state-of-the-art facilities for a diverse range of research. For neuroscience, we have equipment for single- and multi-unit recordings, not only in the anesthetised, but also in the awake behaving, animal. The neuroscience lab also boasts cell-labelling and tracing techniques for anatomical mapping. For testing hearing in human subjects, we have seven sound-insulated rooms, a ring of 24 loudspeakers and a high-density EEG system, which is also MR compatible. IHR has access to a number of other research facilities on campus, including an echo-free room in the School of Psychology, for which we have designed a state-of-the-art sound system for free-field auditory testing, a high- (3-T) and an ultra high-field (7-T) fMRI scanner, as well as a 275-channel MEG system in the Sir Peter Mansfield Magnetic Resonance Centre.
IHR in Glasgow offers a ring of 24 loudspeakers linked to a head-tracking system for testing spatial orienting, plus a sound-insulated room equipped for standard psychophysical experiments.
Researchers across IHR benefit from an exceptional level of engineering and computer support, having at their disposal a first-class electronics workshop and computer support team, as well as a dedicated statistician to help with data analysis.
IHR provides a particularly sociable research environment. The main building in Nottingham has a library, a newly refurbished kitchen, staff room and seminar room, as well as an outside patio area with BBQ facility. Staff from the clinical sections frequently visit for meetings and workshops.
