About us
IHR is funded by the Medical Research Council (MRC) and employs a total of around 70 staff. It consists of a main section, located on the Nottingham University Park campus, as well as two clinical sections, located within large NHS teaching hospitals - the Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham and the Glasgow Royal Infirmary in Scotland.
Our research
Our goal is to increase understanding into the mechanisms of hearing and to improve and develop diagnostic and therapeutic approaches to hearing disorders, such as hearing loss, tinnitus or speech and language impairments.
We use a wide variety of state-of-the-art neuroscientific technologies, including cell labelling and neuronal tracing, single- and multi-channel neurophysiological recordings, neuroimaging (fMRI) and non-invasive electrophysiological recordings (EEG/MEG), psychophysical testing and computational modelling. These techniques allow us to probe auditory processes from single cells to associative and cognitive functions, such as multi-sensory integration and auditory learning.
IHR provides an exceptionally interactive and highly interdisciplinary research environment.
